The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has announced an exciting opportunity for Zimbabweans to engage in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) Hackathon. In collaboration with ITU, POTRAZ is inviting participation in a special mentoring session scheduled for the 26th of September 2024, as part of a broader initiative to foster innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with a focus on future networks and sustainable development.
The mentorship is a follow-up to the workshop held in May 2024, and aims to provide technical webinars that will promote knowledge sharing and guidance on AI/ML technologies. One of the key areas of focus is applying these technologies to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative comes as part of Zimbabwe’s strategic involvement in ITU’s efforts to standardize the future of global telecommunication.
What’s in it for Participants?
During the mentoring session, participants will be offered exclusive insights into the ITU WTSA Hackathon, including problem statements, rules, submission tips, and advice on how to succeed. This event is designed to demystify ITU’s pre-standard correspondence groups, particularly in AI, providing direct access to global trends and expectations. Attendees will also benefit from interactive Q&A sessions, allowing for clarification on specific questions they may have.
Who Should Participate?
This unique opportunity is open to a wide range of individuals, particularly those who:
- Are academics or students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
- Work as industry professionals ranging from startups to established network operators.
- Are open-source developers and data analysts.
