  • Millions of Facebook users experienced a sudden and unexpected log out from the platform, leading to concerns of potential hacking. The disruption occurred this afternoon around 5 pm, leaving users unable to log back in. Typically, such occurrences are associated with hacked accounts, which further intensified fears among the affected individuals. However, the root cause of this incident was a temporary service outage on Facebook.

The widespread disruption also impacted some Instagram and WhatsApp accounts, as these platforms are owned by Meta, the parent company of Facebook. Users across the country faced an inconvenience as they were unable to access their social media profiles or communicate through these platforms.

Thankfully, after a period of approximately two hours, the service was restored, and users were able to resume their normal Facebook activities. Meta promptly issued an apology to all those affected, acknowledging the inconvenience caused and assuring them that the issue had been resolved as swiftly as possible.

This recent outage is reminiscent of the significant disruption experienced during the 2021 outage, which occurred on October 5th. During that incident, millions of users worldwide were unexpectedly disconnected from the platform for several hours. All four Meta-owned apps, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, were affected due to technical difficulties related to the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). The BGP is responsible for directing users to the appropriate online destinations.

As Facebook resumes its normal operations, it is essential for users to remain vigilant and ensure the security of their accounts. Regularly updating passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and exercising caution while clicking on suspicious links or accepting friend requests from unknown individuals are advisable practices to protect personal information and mitigate potential security risks.

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, disruptions like today's Facebook outage serve as a reminder of the importance of technological resilience and the need for individuals to explore diverse platforms that offer reliable and secure communication alternatives.
